The Fire Department points out that the fire may have started on a local farm, in a private area. The suspect is being investigated. The operation also has the support of nine firefighters from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and teams from the Municipal Environment Secretariat. According to the Fire Department, teams remain mobilized to fight and control the fire. For this Friday (21), reinforcements are planned, with the participation of 16 students from the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Course, 12 soldiers from the 16th GBM, three soldiers from the Special Operations Group and four soldiers from the Air Operations Group, in addition to the ICMBio teams. According to Lieutenant Colonel Bernardino, commander of the 16th Military Firefighter Group of Teresópolis, the fire is expected to lose strength during the night. "We believe that during the night the fire will lose strength as it is advancing towards a ravine. But we are monitoring it. The teams are still on site fighting the flames and there are no houses at risk at this time", informed the commander. According to an alert from the Teresópolis Civil Defense, relative humidity is below 30%, a condition that increases the risk of forest fires and can cause health impacts.
