Backhoe loader and other structures are at the bottom of the lake Backhoe loader, minibus, swimming pool and a house from the old town of Canela were some of the structures found submerged at the bottom of Lake Palmas, by sport fisherman Luiz Carlos Marques de Queiroz. It maps and explores the waters, at a depth of 9 meters, using free diving. The records indicate remnants from a time before the lake was filled, between 2001 and 2002. The house was one of the most recent records, located in June 2026. (See video above) "Some of the structures are more than 10 meters deep, so I can't go down there in apnea [breathing interruption]. But the shallower ones, up to 9 meters, I can", explains Luiz. Luiz Carlos, who is a lieutenant colonel in the Military Police, says that, currently, the structures serve as shelters for fish. I'm a competitor, so we map the lake, mainly for the competition. When looking for these old farmhouses, residences, I end up finding fishing spots, because part of them, today, are fish homes", he says. Luiz explains how the search and discovery process works and highlights that he uses equipment to check the bottom of the water and, when he locates a different object, he dives in to take a closer look. "I end up finding these structures and, when I find them, I save the location. I dove to take these images and tell a little about the history of the lake. Because many people who came to Palmas arrived after the lake had already been filled", he says. Among the discoveries is a submerged minibus. As reported by the fisherman and confirmed by g1, this vehicle, unlike other structures, was placed at the bottom of the lake by the Fire Department to train divers.
